On Friday 11th November 2011, Christchurch Primary School held their annual awards ceremony where the amazing success of the students was the focus of the night. What was even more special about this year’s ceremony was the wonderful collaboration between Battersea Park School and Christchurch Primary School.
The event took place in the main hall at Battersea Park School and families students and the special guest were led through to the ceremony down a red carpet into an immaculately decorated stage, performance platform and a myriad of stars and balloons.
Each student was presented with a medal and one student from Key Stage One and Key Stage Two won a coveted Oscar statuette.
In between categories, the audience was entertained by a range of performances, such as African drumming and dancing to a moving rendition of Believe by pupils from class three and four.
In addition to this talent from our school, The Battersea Dance Troupe girls performed a jazz dance to Brand New Day with fantastic energy. One of our ex-students, Elizabeth Boatimah-Boampong gave a passionate performance of One Night Only from the musical Dreamgirls.
At the close of the Ceremony all students both nominated and performers sang Siyhamba (We are Marching in the Light of God) and the overwhelming community spirit was felt as the audience joined in. After the ceremony everyone was invited to partake in the refreshments provided, which also included a chocolate fountain!
The excellent partnership between the two schools recourses, created an amazing night for all, which showcased creativity in the pursuit of excellence. Battersea Park School would like to thank Sandra Beckwith and Barbara Kashani from Christchurch for this memorable experience shared by the local community of Wandsworth. With special thanks and praise to our Director of Performing Arts, Ray Pinch and our outstanding Creative and Performing Arts Technican Perry Leaver.
