THE VISION
Ours is a school with a mission for excellence and inclusion, a friendly community committed to the goals:
highest achievement,
a secure environment,
a stable place in the heart of the community.
AIMS OF THE COLLEGE
We seek to help each student to develop into a mature and responsible adult. The right attitude towards hard work and respect for all lies at the heart of our vision. We aim to create a caring community in which both staff and students can work and achieve, and where teaching and learning is free from disruption.
With this philosophy as our foundation, we aim specifically to help each of our students to:
q attain academic qualifications which reflect their true potential.
q develop the personal and social skills necessary for life.
q develop high standards of literacy and numeracy.
q develop confidence and abilities which create a positive self-image.
q develop inter-personal skills.
q develop the skills, abilities and aptitudes of independent learners, and so
support lifelong learning.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
Each individual should be valued and treated with respect. No person should be undervalued or disadvantaged as a consequence of colour, culture, religion, sexuality, class or individual needs.
A SCHOOL COMMUNITY BUILT ON RESPECT AND TEAMWORK
The aims and values of the school are encapsulated in our mission statement:
‘Building a community where learning is for everyone’
TO ACHIEVE THIS WE DO THE FOLLOWING:
Building
q We develop self-confidence, kindness, courage and the capacity to reflect, be critical and learn from mistakes.
q We prepare young people for their future as active and flexible contributors to a demanding world.
q We set challenging targets that will build on past performance.
Community
q We encourage parental involvement.
q We encourage students to participate in School life through the school council.
q We seek to develop links with the wider community.
Learning
q We encourage and motivate students to enjoy the challenge of learning.
q We expect high standards of achievement in all aspects of school life.
q We seek to develop skills in students that will enable them to become lifelong
learners.
Everyone
q We seek to enable all individuals to fulfil their potential.
q We expect behaviour which is thoughtful of others.
q We work and learn together in a positive and an open atmosphere.
Therefore we have an overall school policy of differentiation in every subject area. This means that we aim to provide work and study programmes suited to the whole ability range in each teaching group. This policy allows each student to make steady progress with work which is challenging yet manageable.
At the same time we do recognise that there are students who have particular learning difficulties, which may or may not be recognised by a Statement of Special Educational Needs.
