Subjects: AS/A2 Fine Art /Alternative ArtNumber of lessons per fortnight: 10 Extra Studio hours per fortnight: 4 – 8 AS Unit 1:Internally set / internally assessed. All AS work is measured against four assessment objectives the key words for these are: Develop Experiment Record Realise Students will explore a variety of avenues in Fine Art, they will consider context, materials and develop research skills. Students will develop a portfolio of work that will reflect their interests and progress. Students will be encouraged to be imaginative, daring and critical and they will develop their confidence to create, manipulate and evaluate their work. In Fine Art students will much more organic in their approach to work. They will experiment with modern mediums, 3D, Textile and digital art. The sketchbook/journey book plays a crucial part in the course and its progression. A2 Unit 3:Internally set / internally assessed. Students work to become specialists in a chosen area. All students will produce a portfolio and write a 1000-4000 word personal study on their chosen area of expertise. AS Unit 2 / A2 Unit 4:Externally set / internally marked / externally moderated In February students will be set a title /theme from which they will have to create a portfolio of work that explores the given theme. The conclusion to this will be an 8 hour exam in early June. Assessment: Students will be assessed throughout the course against official assessment criteria. Students will be encouraged to evaluate their progress and attainment. All students will develop independent learning skills. Students will discuss, present and be empowered to be critical, helpful and in charge of their progress and journey. Units 1 and 2 will be marked against Edexcel Assessment Grids: Develop/Experiment/Record/Realise. Exhibition:Students will curate their end of year Exhibition in June to show off their work. Homework:All homework is set directly from classroom activities and will support the student’s portfolios. Equipment:All Art students will be expected to purchase equipment sets for £10 at the start of term, all other equipment will be provided. Students will also be asked to pay a studio fee of £20 a year and this will enable them to order any specialist equipment they might want. Studio:All Fine Art students will have their own studio space where they can work in their free time and display their work. The studio plays a key part for all A Level students in Art.
