 What is it?

The AQA specification A English Literature GCE is a course in which students study and explore the connections between a set text selection of poems which express a ‘struggle for identity inmodern literature’across time, place and circumstance within the shared context. The course shows how the 20th century changed the ways poets write. Students are encouraged to analytically explore the concept of modern poetry, synthesising meaning from the poems, recognising key features of content and style, as well as range and variety.

Students also study a range of extracts from modern novels depicting struggles for identity, as part of the specification’s wider reading requirement; finding connections between the extracts and wider reading considering the importance of their contexts.
