What is a BTEC National
The new BTEC Nationals incorporate functional skills and the personal learning and thinking skills (PLTS) which offers opportunities for nested provision and flexibility of delivery. Furthermore, the course is designed to accommodate the needs of employers as well as allowing progression for students who wish to attend university.
Students are awarded a qualification depending on the number of credits they achieve.
Certificate= 30 credits = 1AS level Subsidiary Diploma= 60 credits = 1A level Diploma = 120 credits = 2A levels Extended Diploma= 180 credits = 3A levels
Examples of Mandatory Units: Unit 1: The Business Environment Unit 2: Business Resources Unit 3: Introduction to Marketing Unit 4: Business Communication
Examples of Optional Units: Unit 10: Market Research in Business Unit 11: Relationship Marketing Unit 12: Internet Marketing in Business Unit 13: Recruitment and Selection in Business Unit 14: Aspects of Employment Law Unit 16: Human Resource Management in Business Unit 17: Training in the Business Workplace Unit 18: Managing a Business Event
Assessment: Students will build up a portfolio of work in line with the exam board specification and this will be assessed upon completion of each unit and throughout the year to monitor progress.
Homework: Students will be expected to use free periods and non contact time to work independently to complete the tasks set and meet the given criteria.
Equipment requirements / recommended texts: Students will be expected to have the standard equipment of a blue/black pen, pencil, sharpener, eraser and a ruler.
