Subject: Science GCSE (specification B)Number of lessons per fortnight: 8 Topics of study:There are 6 topics in year 10: Human biology, Evolution and Environment, Products from rocks, Oils Earth and Atmosphere, Energy and Energy Resources, Radiation and the Universe. At least two pieces of coursework will be completed over the year, which involves a Practical Investigation and write-up. The best piece of coursework will go towards the final GCSE grade. Assessment: Pupils will have 3 written exams over the year on Biology, Chemistry and Physics in January and June. Each exam is worth 25% of a GCSE. Each piece of coursework plus the exam are worth 25%. These coursework exams are called ISAs (Investigative Skills Assessments) Homework: Homework is set twice a week to both consolidate and build on the learning in class. Equipment requirements: all students must have pen, pencil, rubber, ruler, pen, and a scientific calculator for every Science lesson. Pupils will be using a variety of Science GCSE textbooks during lessons and may borrow them to use at home under certain circumstances.
