Subject: Year 10 PHYSICAL EDUCATIONNumber of lessons per fortnight: 4 hours During Key Stage 4 students tackle complex and more demanding activities applying their knowledge of skills and techniques towards an effective performance. They decide whether to get involved in physical activity that is mainly focused on competing or performing, promoting health and well being, or developing personal fitness. They also decide on roles that suit them best including performer, coach, choreographer, leader and or official. The view they have of their skilfulness and physical competence gives them the confidence to get involved in exercise and activity out of school and in later life. Activities:
Table Tennis
Assessment: Pupils are assessed at the end of each unit of work in line with the National curriculum guidelines. At key stage 4, national qualifications are one means of assessing attainment in physical education. However at this stage students should be achieving between a level 6 & the level 7 criteria. Equipment: Students should attend the lesson with a school PE kit which should be the new black polo shirt, black shorts with a wide yellow stripe and white socks. Students are permitted to wear their BPS jumpers when the weather is particularly inclement. Footwear should be appropriate to the activity, which in most cases will require a pair of trainers. Students will not be allowed to take part if they fail to bring any of these items to lessons. Students, who are unable to take part in the lesson because of a medical or any other reason, are expected to bring a letter from a parent or guardian to explain this.
