What is GCSE Film Studies?

GCSE Film Studies is a course which allows students to explore film as an art form, as a cultural phenomenon, as a means of communication and as an industry. The course requires students to analyse the micro features of individual films, understand the cultural and industrial forces which drive the movie industry and to explore the relationship between audiences and cinema. Students will be expected to attend some lunchtime Film Club screenings in order to gain a wider understanding of the material ready for examination.

5: Genre study: Superhero movies

6: Creative and exploratory coursework

How is the course assessed?

There are four compulsory exam questions:

  • Respond to an unseen moving image stimulus.             
  • One Question on Film Language
  • One Question on Genre
  • Respond to a still image stimulus
  • One question on marketing/promotion

 

  • Creative Task (Controlled Assessment)
    • A series of tasks in relation to Film Language, Genre,

Marketing and Promotion

 

Equipment:

Writing equipment as listed in school prospectus.

Uniform:

School uniform rules apply.
