Subject: BTEC FIRST DIPLOMA IN Sport
Number of lessons per fortnight: 8 What is a BTEC Sport First Diploma? This course has been revamped since 2010, it has more flexibility within the units. The full qualification is the equivalent to 4 GCSEs but they have now introduced other exit points at 1 and 2 GCSE equivalents. All of the units that the students will study will be internally assessed and then externally verified. The course is studied over a two year period. Students will take 1 Mandatory unit which will be Fitness Testing & Training, and then there will also be a Specialist unit from either Practical Sport or Outdoor & Adventurous Activities. The outdoor activities will become compulsory because of our commitment to outward bounds project. The remaining optional units (5 from 17) will depend upon the selective group of chosen students and their abilities. How is the course assessed? You will be assessed at the end of each term for each unit. Reaching specific grading criteria will determine what grade you will get. There will be 6 units to cover; 2 of which are compulsory, over the 2 years. Since September 2010 the BTEC has been revised under the QCF where a number of points will be scored per credit. Students will build-up a portfolio of work in line with the exam board’s specification and this will be assessed throughout the year to monitor their progress. As this course is continually assessed students are expected to adhere to deadlines and submit all work on time. Homework: Students will be set homework linked to the topics being studied that term as well as preparation work for their coursework assignments.
