EAL Option Support: KS4 Number of lessons per fortnight: 5Curriculum: Pupils are offered an EAL Option course as one of their pathway choices in year 9. The aim of the subject is to support pupils with both compulsory and their chosen pathway subjects. Pupils are given the opportunity to continue to improve their language skills. Particular emphasis is placed on supporting pupils taking GCSE and vocational options, especially GCSE English. Assessment: Pupils are assessed every half term. Assessments monitor pupil progress in their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Not all pupils taking EAL Option Support take GCSE’s and vocational courses. Some pupils are entered for Cambridge ESOL exams or EDI JETSET exams. These pupils are assessed at the end of each half term using past exam papers from the exam boards. Homework: Homework is set on a weekly basis. Emphasis is placed on reading and writing activities to help develop key vocabulary and literacy skills. Pupils are also assessed through regular use of past exam papers and other class work activities.
