Subject:   BTEC First Certificate & Diploma in Health & Social Care

Course Outline

The level 2 BTEC First certificate in Health and Social Care consists of two units plus one specialist unit. The level 2 BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care consists of two core units plus four specialist units.

The course will provide opportunities for the student to acquire skills and knowledge which are transferable to the work environment. The individual will be able to enter employment as a health or social care worker, or progress to other vocational qualifications in health studies or child care.

The student also has the opportunity to develop the major key skills and the wider key skills in context, such as improving own learning and performance and working with others.

Assessment

Students will be completing assignments throughout the course which will be assessed by their subject tutors. All units are internally assessed. During the year a sample of work will be internally verified and then sent to the EV (external verifier) for external moderation.

Homework

Continuous assessment means that students will be completing assignments, and undertaking research throughout the course.

Equipment requirements:

Students are expected to bring the standard equipment of a blue or black pen, pencil, sharpener, eraser and a ruler to all lessons. It is also recommended that students obtain the BTEC First Health and Social Care student book published by Nelson Thornes. Students will be provided with a unit specification handbook which they will be expected to bring to every lesson.
