Subject: BTEC Science Number of lessons per fortnight: 8 Topics of study and assessment: Basic principles of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with lots of practical and ICT based work. This is a vocational course although not suitable for students who wish to study Medicine, Physiotherapy, or Nursing, for example. These subjects require GCSEs and A levels.This option will be provided for 1 to 2 teaching groups and is ideally suited to students who do not excel in exams as it is 100% coursework.If students complete the minimum amount of work you will achieve a pass (2Cs), but they also have the opportunity to achieve a Merit (2Bs) Distinction (2As) or Distinction * (2A*s) Homework: there is continuous assessment so homework will be writing up work to present in a folder, and completing assessment tasks. This will be set twice a week. There will also be after school sessions on offer for those students who need access to a computer/internet in order to complete their assessments. Equipment requirements: all students must have pen, pencil, rubber, ruler, pen, and a scientific calculator for every Science lesson. Pupils will be using Science BTEC textbooks during lessons and may borrow them to use at home under certain circumstances. Contact: Head of Science
