Humanities: GCSE Geography (yr11)

Curriculum.

During the autumn pupils study Unit 1. This is their exam unit, The Physical Environment with the nominated topics of The Restless Earth and Water on the Land.

Through the spring and summer terms pupils will study of 3 of the following topics. The Coastal Zone, Ice on the Land and Rocks, Resources and Scenery and The Living World.

Pupils will complete their study of The Coastal Zone, Ice on the Land and Rocks, Resources and Scenery and The Living World.

Assessment:

Pupils will sit an exam on The Physical Environment. The paper will contain a Geographical Skills section including Ordinance Survey Map work. The exam will last for 1hr 30mins and will contribute to 37.5% of the final grade.

Further to this the pupils will complete a Controlled Assessment task which will involve independent research and interpretation in a controlled environment.  The Controlled Assessment investigation will contribute to 25% of the final grade.

Homework:

Homework is set weekly and either involves Geographical skills, knowledge and enquiry based on the themes and concepts being studied.  The students are expected to draw up a revision timetable and take responsibility for their future exam success.
