Subject:   BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in MUSIC

KEY STAGE 4

In year 10, students who have chosen Music study for a Level 2 BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate (equivalent to 2 GCSEs).  In addition to units studied in year 9, students study units on ‘Professional Development in the Music Industry’ and ‘Solo Musical Performance’.  In year 11, students are expected to complete their course by studying for a Level 2 BTEC First Diploma.  Students complete units in ‘Planning and Creating a Music Product’, ‘Exploring Musical Composition’ and ‘Producing a Musical Recording’.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

Students can take extra music lessons to learn an instrument in a small group.  We offer lessons in saxophone, clarinet, flute, keyboard, guitar, bass guitar, singing, steel pans, drums, violin, viola and cello.

We also offer lunchtime and after school clubs including choir, DJ club and fusion band.

SHOWS & EVENTS

In the 2010/2011 school year Battersea Park music students have taken part in a winter concert, a rock band tour, a BTEC showcase, the annual X Factor competition and a summer music festival.  Students have represented the school in the ‘Blastbeat’ competition and the Mayor of Wandsworth’s carol concert.
