ASDAN KS4 – LEVEL 1 and 2 Number of lessons per fortnight: 5 Course description ASDAN is a vocational course. Students’ complete twelve units using a variety of skills; Working with Others, Discussion, Problem Solving, Improving their own learning and research. The course links with Science, Health and Social Care, English, Media, Modern Foreign Languages and Geography These skills are demonstrated through planned tasks which enable to students to use and develop their abilities. The aims of the course are:
The course covers two years during which time students will have: Researched and presented a topic of their choice to the whole class. This can take the form of film, a power point presentation an illustrated speech or poster. Taken part in a group discussion on a topic of social or moral interest. Shown their ability to improve their own learning by producing a project on a given topic. Shown their ability to solve problems using lateral thinking, map reference skills, taking part in the baby project or other projects which present the students with practical problems. Undertaken a serious research project on a given subject. Shown that they can work effectively as part of a team on a fund raising project, environmental project or other given task. Assessment Students produce a portfolio of work which is externally moderated. Awards are equivalent to a D or B GCSE qualification depending on the level at which the work is undertaken. |
