Subject: OCR Nationals in ICT
Number of lessons per fortnight: 3These qualifications are typically aimed at students who are seeking a career or further study in Information and Communication Technology. The course is based on practical units of work that have a business theme. The student will need to create solutions specific users needs. With OCR Nationals, you’ll learn how to manage and present your work to suit the client and how to use a variety of software. Because of the wide range of units available the course can be tailored to meet the needs of the students. Students will be aiming to complete 2 units to finish with the equivalent of 1 GCSE What’s in it for me? This qualification will give you a solid grounding in the use of some software applications, enabling you to go on to further study or to go into the workplace, with the relevant skills. What do I have to do? All students will need to complete the first unit of work along with up to 2 other optional units. The students have worked on Unit 1 – ICT for Business. They will use part of this year to update previous work and to work on 1-2 further units such as: Spreadsheets This unit will help the student to create a workable, effective spreadsheet that is able to be used to predict results and create graphs. The spreadsheet must meet the clients’ needs as specified in the project brief. Digital Imaging This unit involves the students creating images that can be used to advertise and package a product. The students will need to review current examples of images and apply what they have learnt to create some new images. More details are available from http://www.ocr.org.uk Homework: Students will be set homework that will draw on the topics being studied that term as well as preparation work for their coursework assignments. Equipment requirements/recommended texts: ICT is essentially computer based, but students will be expected to have the standard equipment of a blue/black ink pen, pencil, sharpener, eraser and a ruler.
