Philosophy and Ethics

Number of lessons per fortnight:    1

Curriculum:

All students will study a program of study that is designed to develop critical thinking skills and support their intellectual development. This is not an examinable course. The course is designed to stimulate students thinking and introduce them to views that may differ from their own. There are ample opportunities for discussion, debate and enquiry. Topics covered are:

1. Religious intolerance and Bullying.
2. Conflict Resolution.
3. Human Rights.
4. Homophobia.
5. War and Peace.
6. Systems of Ethics and Morality.
7. Case study – Abortion.
8. Case study – Genetics.

Assessment

Assessments and monitoring of progress will then take place on a half termly basis. Assessment will also take place through class work.

 Homework:

Homework will be project based work and will be available to all parents and pupils on Fronter. Homework will be set on a half termly basis.
