Art & Design: KS3                      

Number of lessons per fortnight: 2

Curriculum:All students in KS3 (yr7-9) will have the opportunity to work in a number of ways, this includes:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Printing
  • Textile / Fashion
  • ICT / Photoshop / Graphics
  • Three dimensional work
  • Mixed media

All students will work on different surfaces, using different materials and in a selection of sizes.

Students will also study:

  • The Formal Elements
  • Contextual studies / History of Art
  • Work Related Learning / Functional skills
  • Themed projects (3-5 over a year)
  • Working in sketchbooks / Understanding the journey of developing an idea.

As students climb up KS3 the work set, skills and techniques become progressively more difficult and specialised.

Assessment:All students will understand the National Curriculum Levels, how to achieve them and how to progress in them. All students will know their levels and be able to set realistic targets in how to progress to the next. Self Assessment and evaluation plays a key part in assessing work in Art.

Homework:All students will be given a homework project and it will be set Half Termly. This mounts up to five/six homework projects over the course of the year. The homework is set to further develop students’ skills, promoteIndependent learning and to consolidate students learning.

Art clubs:All students have the opportunity to attend lunchtime and after school Art clubs

Art Trips:All students will have the opportunity to visit an art Gallery or work with Artists over KS3
