History

Number of lessons per fortnight:    3

Curriculum:

Under the new KS3 curriculum we teach History through a series of „big pictures‟which enable students to follow a story across History. The themes included: Power and democracy, Conflict and co-operation, everyday lives, attitudes and beliefs, movement and settlement. These big picture themes are covered through a series of enquiry questions. Topics covered are:

  1. What is History
  2. Empire – Movement, settlement and Empire
  3. Conflict – why do people risk their lives?
  4. Power – could a king do whatever he liked?
  5. Ordinary life – what was it like to live in the Middle Ages
  6. Ordinary life – How did the Black Death and peasant revolt change lives
  7. Ideas and beliefs – medieval or modern
  8. What have you learnt this year?

 Assessment:

Assessment will begin with a baseline assessment in year 7. Assessments and monitoring of progress will then take place on a half termly basis. Assessment will also take place through class work and homework.

 Homework:

Homework will be project based work and will be available to all parents and pupils on Fronter. Homework will be set on a half termly basis.
