All students in Year 8 will study either French or Spanish.

French is taught by Mr C. Konan and Ms Z. Von Pfefer and Spanish by Ms L. Garcia and Ms A. Entcheva.

 Autumn term activities:

This term enables pupils to consolidate their knowledge of “personal details, weather and seasons” and the use of time.  They also have a brief initial presentation of the perfect tense.  At the end of the term pupils will learn to talk about a recent holiday.

 Spring term activities:

During the second term pupils learn to talk about parts of the body, illnesses, going to the doctor’s and keeping fit. This term enables pupils to consolidate their knowledge of 'likes and dislikes', focusing in particular on use of the definite article with food. They learn about quantities and plan recipes.

 Summer term activities:

Year 8 spend the summer term reinforcing their knowledge about themselves and other members of the family.  They also learn to talk about how to get to places and give their opinions about the transport.  This term is an opportunity for the pupils to consolidate their knowledge on cultural facts according to the language they are learning.  They will learn how to invite someone out and give reasons for not going.  They also learn to communicate on the subject of 'finding your way', including places in a town and directions.

 Assessment:

Every pupil at KS3 is assessed against National Curriculum criteria in each of the four skills. All pupils are assessed in a variety of ways:

  • End of unit tests in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills to check students progress take place on at least three occasions during the year and the results are recorded centrally.
  • Assessment for reading and writing are based on evidence in students’ exercise books, which are marked by the class teacher.
