History

Number of lessons per fortnight:    3

Course Description:

Under the new KS3 curriculum we teach History through a series of „big pictures‟which enable students to follow a story across History. The themes included: Power and democracy, Conflict and co-operation, everyday lives, attitudes and beliefs, movement and settlement. These big picture themes are covered through a series of enquiry questions. Topics covered are:

 

  1. Ordinary life – what did the industrial revolution do for us?
  2. Empire – why were Europeans mad about Empires
  3. Movement and settlement – Into the unknown – were all emigrants brave and adventurous
  4. Conflict – which wars should we know about?
  5. Power – when and why did kings lose control?
  6. Power – how did ordinary people win the right to vote?

 Assessment

Assessments and monitoring of progress will take place on a half termly basis. Assessment will also take place through class work and homework.

 Homework:

Homework will be project based work and will be available to all parents and pupils on Fronter. Homework will be set on a half termly basis.
