ICT PDF Print E-mail

Subject:   ICT

Number of Lessons per fortnight:   2

 Autumn term activities:

The students will start the year with a unit on the risks of using the internet. They will take on the role of a detective working for a private investigation company, whose role it is to solve different kinds of cybercrime. Using a range of tools and software applications they will investigate the clues left behind by the criminals and write detailed reports about their cases. They will learn to keep data secure, enhance audio and visual media and spot audio and visual tricks and fakes.

They will also look at the legal and moral issues behind ICT. They will work using real life case studies and produce material explaining the laws and issues.

 Spring term activities:

This term students will work on a project to design an animated water ride for a theme park. They will model the costs and revenue associated with the theme park and then design posters designed at different audiences to promote the theme park.

 Summer term activities:

Students this term will work on a GCSE equivalent unit called ICT skills in business. Support is offered at lunchtime and after school on Wednesdays to complete this unit. Doing so, along with Unit 23 (done in Y8) they can receive a qualification equivalent to 1 GCSE.

 Assessment:

Students will build-up a portfolio of work, which will be assessed to monitor their progress throughout the year.  The portfolio will be used to give students a National Curriculum Level at the end of the school year.

 Homework:

Students will be completing tasks using the school virtual learning environment once every 2 weeks and can be tracked by logging onto www.fronter.com/wandsworth.

 Equipment requirements/recommended texts:

The purchase of a Key Stage 3 ICT Revision Guide is highly recommended.  ICT is mainly computer based, but students will be expected to have the standard equipment required: at least a blue/black ink pen, pencil, sharpener, eraser and a ruler. A USB memory stick will also be very useful.
