Subject: Year 9 PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Number of Lessons: 4 hours per Fortnight During Key Stage 3 students become more expertly aware of their skills and techniques, and how to apply them in different activities. They will know what makes a performance effective and how to apply their tactical awareness to various activities. They will also learn to take the initiative and make decisions for themselves about key performances. At the end of Key Stage 3 (KS3) the students should have established a foundation that will give them an opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and understanding within several sports. Certain students will also be contemplating whether to choose BTEC First Diploma in Sport as one of their level 2 qualification option subjects at the end of this year. Activities:
Football Netball Hockey Outdoor and Adventurous activities
Assessment: Students are assessed at the end of each unit of work in line with the National Curriculum guidelines. At the end of Year 9 students should be achieving between level 5 & 7 with several achieving within the level 6 criteria. Equipment requirements: Students should attend the lesson with a school PE kit which should be the new black polo shirt, black shorts with a wide yellow stripe and white socks. Students are permitted to wear their BPS jumpers when the weather is particularly inclement. Footwear should be appropriate to the activity, which in most cases will require a pair of trainers. Students will not be allowed to take part if they fail to bring any of these items to lessons. Students, who are unable to take part in the lesson because of a medical or any other reason, are expected to bring a letter from a parent or guardian to explain this.
