History

Number of lessons per fortnight:    3

Course Description:

Under the new KS3 curriculum we teach History through a series of “big pictures”which enable students to follow a story across History. The themes included: Power and democracy, Conflict and co-operation, everyday lives, attitudes and beliefs, movement and settlement. These big picture themes are covered through a series of enquiry questions. Topics covered are:

 

  1. Conflict – How have conflicts affected soldiers and civilians
  2. Power – how did dictatorships affect people’s lives
  3. Thinking about History; Causation; Consequence; Making a judgement; Significance; Change; Continuity; Impact
  4. Source Skills; Inference; Message and purpose; Cross-referencing; Utility; Testing a hypothesis
  5. Carrying out an Enquiry – The Holocaust
  6. Empire – why is the British Empire so controversial

 

Assessment

Assessments and monitoring of progress will take place on a half termly basis. Assessment will also take place through class work and homework.

 

Homework:

Homework will be project based work and will be available to all parents and pupils on Fronter. Homework will be set on a half termly basis.
